Planning across the United States
For a coast-to-coast call, identify the city rather than saying “US time.” New York and Los Angeles use different regional clocks, while Alaska and Hawaii add further offsets. The table covers major reference zones; it is not a list of every US territory or local exception.
A useful mainland scheduling starting point is late morning on the East Coast, when the West Coast workday is beginning. Phoenix deserves a separate check: its clock does not follow the same seasonal pattern as Denver. Use the city page or converter rather than assuming every Mountain location has the same offset.
The daytime indicator uses Monday through Friday, 09:00–17:00. Federal holidays, market opening hours, school calendars, and employer hours are separate schedules. A green indicator is not evidence that a particular office is open.
For future appointments, choose the date in the time zone converter. Today’s offset is a current reference, not a guarantee about a future clock rule.
Time zones and clock changes in the United States (2026)
The reference cities above cover 6 distinct clocks. Their standard and summer offsets for 2026 are:
| Reference city | IANA zone | Standard offset | Summer offset |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York | America/New_York | UTC−5 | UTC−4 |
| Chicago | America/Chicago | UTC−6 | UTC−5 |
| Denver | America/Denver | UTC−7 | UTC−6 |
| Los Angeles | America/Los_Angeles | UTC−8 | UTC−7 |
| Anchorage | America/Anchorage | UTC−9 | UTC−8 |
| Honolulu | Pacific/Honolulu | UTC−10 | — |
Clock changes in 2026 (for the zones that observe daylight saving):
- Sunday, March 8, 2026: clocks go forward one hour.
- Sunday, November 1, 2026: clocks go back one hour.
Honolulu keeps the same offset all year, so its gap to the rest of the country changes on those dates.
Working hours overlap: New York and other business hubs
The table shows when a 09:00–17:00 weekday in New York overlaps the same working hours elsewhere, in mid-January and mid-July 2026. Times are in New York local time, with the other city’s local time underneath.
| City | January overlap | July overlap |
|---|---|---|
| London | 09:00–12:00 (3 h) London: 14:00–17:00 | 09:00–12:00 (3 h) London: 14:00–17:00 |
| Berlin | 09:00–11:00 (2 h) Berlin: 15:00–17:00 | 09:00–11:00 (2 h) Berlin: 15:00–17:00 |
| Dubai | None | None |
| Singapore | None | None |
| Tokyo | None | None |
| Sydney | None | None |
There is no shared 09:00–17:00 window with Dubai, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney, so one side has to start early or stay late. Where January and July differ, at least one of the two places changes its clocks during the year. Use the meeting planner to test other hours or add more participants.
