When exact age matters
Exact age matters whenever a rule is based on a real calendar date rather than an approximation. That includes school enrollment, sports eligibility, age-gated services, insurance forms, employment paperwork, and retirement milestones. In those cases, “I turn 18 this year” is not enough. The precise completed years, months, and days are what matter.
Many calculators get this wrong by dividing the total number of days by 365. That method ignores leap years and varying month lengths. A proper age calculator compares calendar components directly so the answer lines up with the actual calendar rather than with a rough average year length.
